At Salus Mutual, putting money back into the hands of our members is something we value. It’s also something that sets mutual insurance companies apart. With no external shareholders to answer to, we can focus on what truly matters: providing personalized insurance products for homes, automobiles, businesses and farms while returning surplus funds directly to policyholders.

"This refund is a reflection of our financial strength and commitment to our members," said Steve Dilts, President and CEO of Salus Mutual. "When we do well, our policyholders benefit.”

    The Mutual Advantage

When you purchase a policy with Salus Mutual, you’re more than a customer — you become a member and part owner. This member-owned structure means decisions are made to benefit those who look to Salus to protect their most important assets.

Our Board of Directors consists of policyholders too, ensuring that every decision reflects the needs and values of our customers. Members’ voices matter, and their trust allows Salus to continue putting their needs first. With a mutual, policyholders are the beneficiaries of the company’s success.

    How the Refund Process Works

Each year, our financial performance is carefully reviewed to determine whether a premium refund is possible. This process includes a thorough audit of our financial statements, ensuring that we meet all regulatory requirements and exceed our financial targets. When we achieve strong financial results, we're happy to pass that success along to the members who made it possible.

The 2024 refund applies to policies for Personal Property, Commercial Property, Liability, Hail Insurance and Farmer's Accident & Sickness Insurance. Refund cheques are now being delivered. For more information, members can contact Salus Mutual directly. (Please note that refunds under $10 will not be issued.)

It's important to remember that policy refunds are not guaranteed every year. While we strive to operate efficiently, our top priority is ensuring that Salus Mutual remains financially secure for all members.

    A Commitment to Community

Your membership also supports community initiatives that make our towns and villages stronger. From the community garden in Dutton that fights food insecurity to safety awareness programs and local sponsorships, your premiums help strengthen the communities where we live and work.

Founded through the amalgamation of Howard Mutual and West Elgin Mutual in 2023, Salus Mutual continues a long tradition of mutual insurance in Ontario. Our team across Aylmer, Blenheim, Dutton, Ridgetown and Rodney understands your unique needs because they live here too.

That's the mutual way — rooted in community, focused on members and committed to being there when it matters most.
